What was the challenge?

Build a combined cycle power plant around an existing plant in operation, both located on an ArcelorMittal integrated steel mill.

What did our client do about this?

On this combined cycle power plant construction site, components with more than 350 tons of weight were to be installed. We were entrusted with developing project proposals for the erection of the turbine building, HRSG, electrical building, cooling towers and water treatment by one of the world’s largest corporations.

Tasks

What did we do? We..

Developed the engineering and performed mechanical erection and logistics.

What did we deliver?

NO TIME, NO SPACE, NUMEROUS LANGUAGES AND AMIDST IT ALL, AN HRSG.

We assessed all relevant factors. Aim was to reduce operational downtime while keeping up safety and effectiveness of operations. We faced an environment of severe restrictions in terms of safety, erection procedures and weak grounds. Limited space, only one access road and significant time pressure asked for thorough logistics planning and engineering prior to execution.

From a planning perspective, we supplied our client with a turnkey documentation in terms of scenario analysis, erection sequences, crane type determination, crane positions, pressures, transport routes etc. The entire documentation and presentations were used by our client to receive erection permits granted by the plants proprietor and their inspecting proof engineers.

As an additional obstacle, we had to cross subsurface cables with transport weights of more than 500 tons. Therefore, we supplied mobile bridge and load spreading systems. Also, due to the degree in internationality on site, we supplied operators and project management communicating in many languages in order to ensure safe operations and identify problems before they occur. Our incorporation of flexibility as a core value allowed us to not only react to the mentioned restrictions but also to be there on time.

Did it work?

Yes, from planning until execution there has not been a safety relevant or technical incident.
